La Argentina
La Argentina is a small town high in the mountains on the border between the departments of Huila and Cauca in the south of Colombia. It’s a still unknown gem for lovers of very good coffees. Our partners from The Coffee Quest only started working recently with a small association here of 30 farmers that have shown tremendous potential.
This micro lot blend consists of a mix of tiny micro lots of three different farmers. Between them is Willinton Uitengo, the president of the small association. He is the perfect example of the potential here. He always used to sell his coffees on the local market for the fluctuating day price, until he had his coffee reviewed by the Coffee Quest’s cuppers. It was rated at 87 points so they asked him for more samples. After a visit last November they have started receiving regular sample packages from Willinton and his group.
Willinton, Isidrio and Abel all live in the same region with the same climatic conditions and the same soil profile, influenced by the nearby Huila Volcano. All three are very careful and committed farmers working in a traditional way, doing most of the picking themselves or just with a few workers, guaranteeing good coffee-collection of only the red cherries. The Coffee Quest has started working more closely with them to make sure they will perfect their processing methods so they can improve their quality even more, and very important: maintain this quality for the future.
